9 Magical Places to Celebrate Christmas in The OC

Aside from the summer, Christmas is every child’s favorite time of year (aside from summer of course but that’s only because there’s no school). This is the time of year where everything is magical. Merriment is in the air, colorful lights and decorations are everywhere, Santa is about to make his journey around the world, and there are neat places to check out for all sorts of family fun!  If you’re not sure of where to begin the holiday fun events, here’s a kid approved list of fun in the OC this December… and even January!

1. Big Bear Snow Play Area

This is a wee slope that was prepped for snow. Big Bear Snow Play has a mixture of  man-made and natural snow. For $30 you get a whole day of fun with an inner tube and other fun activities at Big Bear Snow Play such as go karting. There’s so much fun here and not much travel that if you’re planning an outdoor day of play, especially in snow, you cant go wrong here with Big Bear Snow Play.

2. Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain

Geared more for older children than little ones, Alpine Slide uses converted water slides for slide sledding! There are other activities as well such as go karting and golfing for dad. Of course, there are also snow play areas so if you’ve been to Big Bear Snow Play before but want to try something a little different, Alpine Slide is another great choice. What’s great about this place is that they have their own snow making equipment. This means that they may open for winter sooner than other places!

3. Disneyland

Disneyland is great throughout the year but it’s even better during the holiday season. We’re pretty sure it’s every kids’ dream to go to Disneyland during Christmastime. With holiday decorations up, holiday music, holiday parades and shows, not to mention snow on Main Street, you can’t go wrong!

Snow decoration and snow on Main St., Disneyland during the winter months is truly a magical place to be. There’s even ice skating now at Downtown Disney’s Winter Village since the release of the hit move Frozen! If all else fails, Disneyland is certainly the way to go.

4. OC Chill

December may be a high time for Netflix and chill but there’s also OC Chill! Right by Nordstrom and Macy’s in Giant Wheel Court, you can skate, ride the ferris wheel, or shop for some great winter fun while mom shops! This sounds like a great couple of hours outing. Plus, parents can sneakily find out what their kids want and then keep them busy while they’re out having a ball in Giant Wheel Court!

5. Queen Mary Chill

December means that the Queen Mary is transformed into a winter wonderland thanks to a deep freeze descends upon the iconic ship! Packed with ice sculptures, a castle, a queen of ice, a 100 foot ice slide, skating rink, and festive ship, you don’t want to miss CHILL at the Queen Mary. Seriously. This sounds amazing. There’s plenty to do for everyone to have fun. Even you parents. Go ahead – loosen up.

6. Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

OK you probably won’t think of Palm Springs and a snowy winter wonderland, but the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway will take you up into the wilderness, a hidden winter treasure where you can enjoy all things winter! Hot chocolate, tree lighting, and rotating trams? Yes, please! The tram climbs two and a half miles to a pristine wilderness with the World’s Largest Rotating Tramcars! This will truly be an unforgettable adventure for your kids and even yourselves.

7. 41st Annual Dana Point Harbor Boat Parade of Lights

On December 18th and 19th, boaters from all around Orange County decorate their boats with the holiday spirit and vie for the awards such as Judges Choice, Best Theme, Best Use of Lights, Best Animation, Most Colorful, Most Original, Best Sailboat, Best Powerboat and the Perpetual Trophy for the Yacht Club with the Most Entries, and more! The cost is free to attend but if you want to ride in a boat or be featured in the parade, tickets are $29 for adults and $19 for children. More information about this event can be found here.
